The Upward Spiral: Breakthroughs to Joy, A Book Review

The Upward Spiral is an educational, uplifting, and entertaining book of fiction. It is about three women who go through loss and tragedy and learn how to find true happiness in their lives. They go to a retreat together and learn new things about themselves and how to be happy.

Sally, who needs to learn how to please herself instead of others, hits a barricade in her marriage but learns how to make herself happy while making her family happy too.

Pat, a friend of Sally‘s, goes through a terrible time in her marriage and doesn't feel like she can move on. However, she learns to push forward with her life and finds a new way to live life that truly makes her happy.

Lenora, or Nora as her friends call her, is also a friend of Sally and Pat. She loses her husband and closes her heart off to ever finding love again. Nora concentrates on raising her three children until they are grown and then dives into her career. She finally learns how to open up her mind to new things and learns why her heart has been closed to love for so many years.

These three women learn valuable lessons during and after their experience together. They find out why they were not happy and how to make themselves happier in the end.

Although this book is a work of fiction, these stories touched my heart. I cried and laughed while reading this book. When something positive happened, my heart swelled with joy. The author did a great job in reaching out to the reader with the story of these women.

Upon reading this book, I immediately wanted to learn more about the issues discussed at the retreat. Even though the book is fiction, the issues that were discussed are real and made me curious to find out more. I would love to read more of Dr. Janet Cunningham’s books since this one touched me so much.

The Upward Spiral is a great book which makes the reader stop and smile or cry with the characters. This book can show the reader how important it is to live the happiest life they can. I highly recommend reading The Upward Spiral by Dr. Janet Cunningham.
